Karlien De Villiers, with her bizarre characters who seem to come from the world of comics, pushes us to reflect on problems that are always present in our society with a biting irony.
In this artwork, the artist presents a couple facing each other. They appear close, yet distant, their lips drawn, their eyes fleeing the gaze of the other, the livid color of their skin, everything indicates a state of strong embarrassment or tension. As close as they are physically, thy are very distant mentally. To make the tension even more evident is the game between them, a kind of force four, in which each has to make a move that the other carefully examines to understand how to respond, exactly as happens in couple's dynamics, so to every action corresponds a reaction.
